In Germany people have got used to conditions to which one should never get used: Jewish schools have to be guarded by armed men, Jewish worship takes place under police protection, threats are commonplace. The state has allowed this to happen - through a police force that does not effectively ward off this danger, but manages it; through a judiciary that whitewashes the problems over again and again.

Ronen Steinke, himself a lawyer, has traveled through Germany and reports on Jewish life under siege. He meets rabbis and police officers, confronts state security officers, secret service agents and ministers with the state's failure. A lot has to change in Germany. This book explains what needs to be done.

Ronen Steinke's book has been published by Piper Verlag and can be ordered here.

Dr. Ronen Steinke

is editor of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. His doctoral thesis on war crimes tribunals from 1945 until today was praised by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung to be a “masterpiece”. His biography about Fritz Bauer, the courageous investigator and prosecutor of the Frankfurt Auschwitz trials, was published by Piper Verlag. The book has been translated into several languages and provided the basis for an award-winning film "Der Staat gegen Fritz Bauer" (2015). Steinke's book "Der Muslim und die Jüdin" (The Muslim and the Jew") was published by Berlin Verlag in 2017.

Prof. Dr. Samuel Salzborn

has widely published on antisemitism and right-wing extremism. He is the representative of the City of Berlin in the Fight against Antisemitism.
